THE “LEGENDS” ARE COMING!!!

California City, CA – Oct 15, 2013 – Alta Vista Events (AVE) announced that the featured “LEGENDS” race for the upcoming CALIFORNIA CITY GRAN PRIX – AUG 20-22, 2013 is shaping quite nicely. Over this past weekend, invitations started going out and already attending the event are: “San Felipe” Bob Surmon, Johnny Campbell, Kenny Newton, Tex Mitchell, Craig Adams and Mary McGee. Mary, in fact will be at the “LEGENDS” race but will not be competing due to a shoulder that is being treated. But “I want to be there to see some old friends. It sounds like a lot of fun,” she stated.

Others being invited but not yet confirmed are; Brian Sally, Paul Ostbo, Larry Roesler, Jack Johnson, Scott Harden, Tim Clark, Goat Breker, Tim and Chip Morton, Paul Krause, Billy Robertson, Roger Riddell, Brian Farnsworth, Jim O’Neal, Wayne Cook, Steve Holladay, Dan Smith and Dan Ashcraft among others.

According to promoter, Lou Peralta, “These are people that we’ve known for years, who used to be some of the top desert and GP racers here and in Baja that are still active in the sport. Lois and I just want to have a chance to see them again. Moreover, we feel that these are some of the people who set the standards in competition for the youngsters to follow. Of course, there are hundreds more, I’m sure that should be in this “LEGENDS” event, and we hope to hear from more, but this will be a good start,” Peralta added.

The feature event will take place Sunday, December 22 at 10:30 a.m. as the final motorcycle event of the weekend, before the start of the SXS/UTV Gran Prix.

The weekend starts on Friday, December 20 with Registration and a welcoming party at 7 p.m. Racing starts 8 a.m. on Saturday (Dec 21) for motorcycles and ATVs and the PRO MC Class with a large purse at stake.

Sunday is dedicated to all MC Classes plus the “LEGENDS” race before the start of the UTV/SXS Classic. The event is sanctioned by the AMA (American Motorcyclists Association) for motorcycles and ATVs and by the ISA (International Side-X-Side Association) for all UTVs/SXSs.

California City, the friendliest city in the Nation for all types of OHV activities and Alta Vista Events, joined with AVE to bring back the California City Gran Prix, an event that was considered many years ago a “must” event to attend and participate. The City of California City and AVE wish to start a new tradition in the sport by supporting this great event.

Cal-City will waive the California City OHV Off-Road License fee and charge only $5.00 for the weekend, an amount that will be credited should the participant wish to obtain a full license of $15.00 for the year.

The AMA will also have a weekend membership of $20 (instead of the $49 yearly license) and the ISA will discount the license from $20.00 a year to $5.00 for the weekend.

With the diminishing areas available to the off-roader, California City wants to do its part in maintaining open areas for the enthusiasts to ride and participate, according to City Manager, Tom Weil. Mayor Patrick Bohannon and the City Council unanimously approved the event at the recent City Council Meeting and are looking forward to meeting many of the participants and supporters.
