RUGGED - OFFICIAL RACE RADIO FOR AVE/BP RACING
RUGGED RADIOS SIGN A THREE-YEAR DEAL
AS THE OFFICIAL COMMUNICATIONS OF
THE PURE UTV SERIES
For immediate press release…
California City, CA – March 6, 2017 - Lou Peralta, President and CEO of AVE/BP RACING announced today that it has firmed up a three-year agreement with Rugged Radios to be the “Official Communications” for all of the PURE UTV Series events through 2019.
The long term binder from Rugged is an excellent sign of the commitment that the company has with the racing community, and especially with the series that Peralta heads. Peralta commented, “When we first started to structure the PURE UTV Series, Rugged Radios came to us to get involved. From the get-go, they were ready to help racers with their radio problems prior to and during the race, no matter what ‘name or brand’ unit they were using. Rugged was there to help. In the past three years we have built a great relationship with Rugged. Now that the opportunity has presented itself to be the official communications, we offered it to them and they accepted. We are delighted that they will be more involved with us for the next few years.”
A visit to their website, www.ruggedradios.com, explains the extent of their involvement in all types of communications and sport. From off-road to aviation, Rugged Radios is there with the finest equipment ready-to-go for its customers. Their broad product line ranges from Radios and Intercoms to headsets and pumper systems for UTV’s and SXS and other off-road vehicles. When you visit their site you will find great deals on anything from Off-Road to Jeeps, UTV, Racing products, Motorcycle, Public Safety, Aviation, Teams and Events, and offer a plethora of Videos and sales item that will boggle your mind. The company is jolly-on-the-spot when it comes to promoting their terrific product.
Just as important, is the service they offer on weekends and whenever there is a need, they are there with the competitors to make sure their equipment is working to its limits. They have also no reservation about helping racers who may not have their product. As Lance Mitchell, General Manager for Rugged Radios said, “We want to help the sport and the guys and gals in it. When it’s time to race, we don’t need to look at labels; we just need to help the racer.” In fact, they just returned from the MINT 400, The Great American Off-Road Race in Las Vegas, NV, where they were preeminent in the event’s communications.
Race director for AVE/BP Racing, Alan Bell, said it best. “With Rugged Radios being here with us is another safety valve in an effort to always have communications with our racers, especially when it comes to safety issues.”
In 2017, AVE/BP returns to feature races starting and finishing at the Alta Vista Ranch, Cal-City and more importantly, it will continue to use unmaintained County roads, trails, grandfathered routes that have been available to all for over fifty years. AVE/BP also prides itself of not using the same course twice in 12 to 18 months.
Specifically the next event, the PURE “150” – March 18, has almost 80% trails that have not been used for years and some never at all. According to Race Director, Alan Bell, “California City is abundant with open space in the desert and especially in the County. We try never to use the same trails twice in at least a year. This year’s PURE 150 course will be like new to most. It’s Terrific!”
The way it works for pre-running is that a GPS of the course file will be available one week before the race. The normal schedule is to allow those who have entered the event to receive the full GPS file, which it can be uploaded and used to pre-run the race course. There is limited pre-running with only the weekend before the event and also the Friday before Saturday’s start at 10 a.m. As always, radio relays, paramedic teams and officials monitors will be stationed throughout the course during the entire event.

RACERS AND CREWS:
Remember this; y
NEVER TRAVEL AGAINST THE RACE COURSE.
In this PURE 150 course there are several “access” sections where you MAY have to go in the same direction as the racecourse. You must stay to the right, off the course at all times, or if you cannot get off the trail you must keep your eyes open to pull over as a racecar comes towards you. You cannot interfere with the race traffic.
IMPORTANT: Our Medics have preference over the entire racecourse. Please do not obstruct their path. They can also STOP the race if there is an emergency on the course. PLEASE RESPECT THEIR ACTIONS.
The “Alternate Fuel” stop is at RM21. Get there early before the race starts! Please pick up all trash that you bring. No other place to fuel except at the Main Pits.
Entering the Main Pits there is a speed limit of 25 mph. Please obey.
The “kml” Google Earth file, contains a number of “Access” roads marked in green. Please study them and familiarize yourself and your crew so that on race day you will have a good idea how to egress the course if needed.
We are also sending you the “jpg” course map to get an overview of the course. Print several copies for yourself. If there are any last minute changes we will let you know.
The “usr” files contains the same information but racers you may chose not to upload the added access information.
ALSO…This is the file where you might want to make your own notes as you pre-run.
CHASE CREWS: Remember, you cannot go out and retrieve your vehicle until you have contacted us and we’ve been able to provide you with the quickest way to get to your car.
AGAIN: The “access road” we are sending you may want to load it up on your chase truck(s) only.
Please pre-run carefully (NOT AT RACE SPEEDS), and make sure you know the course well.
If you find any problems, please let us know.
ONE BIG REMINDER: We hear that the “sheep” may be coming onto our desert to graze. Please be careful. We will try to contact those responsible for them and alert them that there is a race on Saturday, March 18.
The course will be marked with a few arrows, ribbons and mileage markers next Tuesday.
Have a great time pre-running. You are welcomed to stay overnight at the ranch and enjoy what promises to be a great weekend.
Pre-run Days and Time:
Friday, March 10 from Noon until 6 p.m.
Saturday, March 11 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Remember this is our open deserts so there will be other people enjoying our desert and riding it or driving it. You are responsible.)

SAFECRAFT JOINS THE PURE SERIES
AS SAFETY SPONSOR!
For immediate press release…
California City, CA – January 20, 2017 – Race Promoter, Lou Peralta, announced that SAFECRAFT will join the growing list of Contingency Sponsors for the 2017 PURE UTV OFF-ROAD DESERT SERIES.
SAFECRAFT is the leading provider of fire suppression systems and is used by most of the top professionals in a wide range of industries, including Motorsports, Automotive, Aviation and Marine.
For over twenty years, SAFECRAFT is known for its innovative design and use of the highest quality components available.
SAFECRAFT extinguishers are used by more NASCAR, NHRA, NASA and SCCA teams than any other brand and are the only manufacturer to have several models of extinguishers and different extinguishing agents approved to SFI 17.1 standards.
Their Contingency program includes the next six(6) races of the seven-event PURE UTV Series, starting with the second event scheduled for March 18, the PURE 150.
Their Contingency Program calls for racers, in order to qualify for their payback program to: “Must run SAFECRAFT Auto System or Fire Extinguisher.” Obviously a minimum of two SAFECRAFT decals, one on each side of the UTV are also required.
The company jumped-in at the opportunity when race promoter, Lou Peralta decided to make automated fire extinguishing product a “must” for all racers racing the PURE UTV Series. He also gave all racers until August 7, 2017 to comply in order to race in the series.
Peralta stated, “I know this may be a burden to some, just another expense. But I don’t feel any uneasiness for making this a must condition to race our series, since I have seen many of our racer friends burned to death in off-road in the past forty-plus years. To me one racer is one too many. But as a matter of fact, in the last ten years, I’ve seen two friends die as a result of being knocked out, upside down in the racecar and fire engulfing them. I don’t want something like that to ever happen again in our sport.”
Peralta added: “By us making this a requirement for all cars after August 7, I hope we can encourage other off-road organizations to follow suit.”
As a special incentive for racers to move into the new automated fire extinguishing system, SAFECRAFT is offering racers in the PURE UTV Series a “special discount.” Racers must use the code when ordering their system from SAFECRAFT. AVE/BP racing will provide such “code” to racers already entered or already part of the 2017 Series.
In 2017, AVE/BP returns to feature races starting and finishing at the Alta Vista Ranch, Cal-City and more importantly, it will continue to use unmaintained County roads, trails, grandfathered routes that have been available to all for over fifty years. This year’s PURE 150 course will be like new to most. It’s Terrific!”
Peralta speaking to racers added, “Hey, don’t stop to smell the wild flowers or you are going to lose a lot of positions during the race. Hahaha.” This was to accentuate that after the heavy rains of the past two months the desert is saturated with wild growth.
The way it works for pre-running is that a GPS of the course file will be available one week before the race. The normal schedule is to allow those who have entered the event to receive the full GPS file, which it can be uploaded and used to pre-run the race course.
