POKER RUN FUN #1 - TENTATIVE COURSE - 45 MILES +
INFORMATION ABOUT THE COURSE
This year's first POKER RUN FUN – JUNE 29, 2013 will use the same 44-mile racecourse used for the PURE "300" race the week before. It is highly recommended that you bring with you and "off-road-worthy" vehicle to participate.
The course itself is not very difficult but it has several rocky hills and a few soft sand wash-type trails that will require in some cases 4WD.
However, this is not a race or a speed-trial but a chance to enjoy one of the most beautiful courses we've ever laid out and certainly enjoy a route that offer panoramic views of our 208-square miles of open desert.
We are proud of our desert and of Cal-City for being so OHV-friendly, so we want to keep it that way. But we also have responsibilities:
- 1. We must keep the event safe, so use good judgment when participating.
- 2. We MUST keep our desert clean. Do not leave anything behind and even if you find someone else's trash, we would appreciate it if you take it with you if possible. We realize that some people "dump" awful stuff in the desert and we're not asking you to clean it for us. But we would appreciate it if you could note where the mess might be located and give us that information so that we can clean it.
- 3. The course will be marked with special markings, arrows and signs plus mileage-markers every two miles or so. Please stay on the marked course and not wonder off to other places. We respect private land and we only use those roads, trails, streets that have either been grandfathered or are "unmaintained" City and/or County roads.
- 4. The start/finish is located on private land at the Alta Vista Ranch (AVR) 138th & Proctor. You are welcome to camp out overnight as long as you are participating on the event. Otherwise there is a small parking fee.
- 5. The POKER RUN FUN is just that, a fun ride in the desert where you will be able to pick up playing cards along the way. Once you have completed the 44-mile lap, you will have accumulated five (5) Poker cards. Based on your hand you may be placed among the Top six best cards. At such time you will be playing for the top awards, once "new" cards have been dealt to you.
- 6. However, even if you did not place among the top six card holders, everyone is qualified for the great prizes we give away each year. This year will not be an exception as gifts from various sources will be handed out in a post-event raffle. In most of the events we've had so far, almost everyone goes home with a prize of sorts. We expect it to be the same for this POKER RUN FUN #1 - June 29, 2013.
- 7. Sign up from 9 a.m. on Saturday. It all starts at NOON and the last vehicle will leave the start line no later than 2 p.m. (subject to revision).
- 8. If you wish to play two hands you may do so by purchasing them at the time you sign up.
- 9. Also you may wish to take another lap once you've completed your first. You may do so as long as you leave before 2 p.m.
- 10. Lastly, you can play for cash (the entire purse goes to the winning hand). However, you must first participate in the regular POKER RUN FUN before you can play for cash. Cash entry is $10.00 per hand.
